2. Find 4 images that depict your theme from a variety of sources and cultures. Make sure you have an image from each of cultural categories below. You can also use an image from advertising, and the images do not have to be “fine” art but can be craft or photography.
a) Art from Asia including Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam or other east Asian country, any time.
b) A work of art from historical western European (French, Italian, American, etc. before 1900)
c) Contemporary art, film, photography, or advertising from any culture.
e) Art from East India, Middle East or Islamic country.
Include the images in your paper as a separate sheet, or interspersed in your text (they can be small).
Please briefly cite where the image came from, especially if it is a film, advertising or TV image.
3. Then answer the questions below: Using the images you find, answer the following questions: A single sentence for each question is PLENTY.
1. What did the images have in common, and which were very different and what was different about them?
2. Are these images iconic, symbolic or representational (see videos for this week for definitions of these)?
3. What kind of message or content was included in all the images? For example: most of the faces were smiling, most of the bodies were young, most of the figures were standing, etc.
4. What was your personal experience of these images, how did you feel after looking at them. You may practice some “criticism” here and describe which images you thought were “good” in quality or give your opinion of these images.
5. Briefly discuss the positive and negative meanings you or another viewer could think from looking at these representations of your theme
