The individual essay will ask for a thoughtful and sound reflection focusing on the Gregson Centre. The material presented by the different groups through their long presentations should support the individual reflection. Students are expected to document and reference their learning journey when writing the reflective essay. Furthermore, a strong theoretical grounding is expected with the use of
examples derived from presentations by peers. You will be expected to deliver an essay based on your reflections. Examples of reflective essays can
be found on the reflective essay folder in Moodle. After each short and long seminar (other than the one your group leads), you should aim to write up a
reflective summary (up to 500 words) based on what was presented in the seminar plus additional
research of your own. This practice will help you getting on with the essay write-up.
After each presentation consider the following questions when writing a summary:
What was interesting or surprising?
What did you learn?
Are there other points of view?
What theories were put forward and what are the underlying assumptions?
Are there other theoretical explanations from those discussed in the seminar?
As the reflections accumulate consider the following questions:
Can you develop/explore one or more of the points raised in the seminars?
What is the common thread that arises from the information presented and the reflections you made? You should aim to produce a well-integrated piece of work.
