Abstract
Hong Kong has the fastest growing housing market in the world. This increase in the housing market is perpetuated by the constant rise in population that has led to the rise in demand leading to high property prices. Due to this tentative growth, the housing market is Hong Kong has been an adjunct of the government interventions across the property sector. This paper hence, contributes to the relationship of the government interventions and outcome and intends to enlighten the policy makers planning to invest in the housing market across the globe, an approach that is deemed to be effective in controlling the increasing housing prices, providing better housing facilities to the poor and offering stability into the market. The study first examines the various policies from by the government and the interventions by the state. It further explains the success of these interventions from the Hong Kong data and other institutions around the world to determine their achievement. It continues to discuss the outcome into the housing market and relevant policies that policy makers should adopt in the future. From the research, it was found that the state has employed various policies and the most important interventions were those that offered subsidies and reduced loan mortgage interest’s rates. While the interventions by the states were successful, further studies are recommended to ensure demand and supply is controlled to manage the deteriorating housing prices due to excess demand.
