The Role of the Community Sector in Mental Health Care in Ireland.

Mental health is one of the commonest health illnesses with significant impact on social interactions. In Ireland, mental health care has been going through reforms in the last two decades. There are several community sector organisations spread across the country. Many are local organisations while some are national organisations.
Aims and objectives
This study will attempt to explore the roles the community sector has being playing in this area. This will be done via literature review of published reviews, researches, opinions and articles.
Secondly this study will explore whether the community sector have been advocating for people living with mental health illness, as representative of the people or have become service providers.
Finally this study will also explore some of the challenges that the community sector has been facing in carrying out their roles.
Scope/Outline of Research
I intend to structure the project to include the following topics in this study:
Chapter 1 Introduction
Aims and objectives
Methodology: A literature review adopting a critical perspective on the activities and roles of the voluntary sector in Ireland will be conducted. An internet search of popular databases will be conducted with key phrases: Mental health in Ireland, social issues, community sector and roles of community sector in Ireland. The study will be focused primarily on Ireland but comparison would be made with other countries in Europe and the United States of America.
Outline of the study
Chapter 2 Social issues in mental health: a theoretical framework: In this chapter these issues below will be discussed in relation to mental health illness and people living with mental health illness.

4 Roles of community organisation in mental healthcare services: This chapter will explore activities of community sector in mental health care in Ireland. This will also be related with my personal experience as a resident in rural Ireland and staff in a mental health care facility.
