ARCH ETHICS APPLICATION FORM (STAGE 1)

More information on ethics procedures and any documents detailed in bold can be found at: www.anglia.ac.uk/researchethics. You must read the Question Specific Advice for Stage 1 Research Ethics Approval form.

All research carried out by students and staff at Anglia Ruskin University, and in general all students at our Associate Colleges, must comply with Anglia Ruskin University Policy and Code of Practice for the Conduct of Research.

There is no distinction between undergraduate, taught masters, research degree students and staff research.

All research projects, including pilot studies, must receive research ethical approval prior to approaching participants and/or commencing data collection. Completion of this Stage 1 Research Ethics Application Form is mandatory for all research applications*. It should be completed by the Principal Investigator in consultation with any co-researchers on the project, or the student in consultation with his/her research project supervisor.

*For research only involving animals please complete the Animal Ethics Review Checklist instead of this form.

All researchers should:

If you are still uncertain about the answer to any question please speak to your Dissertation Supervisor/Supervisor, Faculty Research Ethics Panel (FREP) Chair or the Departmental Research Ethics Panel (DREP) Chair.

Researchers are advised that projects carrying higher levels of ethical risk will:

·         require the researchers to provide more justification for their research, and more detail of the intended methods to be employed;

·         be subject to greater levels of scrutiny;

·         require a longer period to review.

Researchers are strongly advised to consider this in the planning phase of their research projects.

Why I have chosen Management in Construction?

Management in Construction is a key principle for a successful project. Human beings adapt different ways to challenge themselves and also work under pressure. Every individual running a project can succeed or fail.

Construction and project management has become a vital component of the delivery of construction project. The hypothesis of this research is that the dependence on the

characteristics and functions of management to deliver construction has a direct

impact of increasing the risk of nonperforming construction, leading to performance

Issues. It is also proposed that a leadership structure is more efficient than the current

management based structure, and will lead to increased construction performance. An

efficient process uses leadership characteristics of empowerment, trust, self

assessment by the timely use of performance information, and the measurement of a

Contractor’s ability, to identify, prioritise, and minimise risk.

A leadership structure results in a “win-win” relationship between clients best value and contractors maximised profit. This research proposes that the use of a leadership oriented process may minimize the inefficiencies of the construction industry. Research is being proposed to explain the importance of moving to a leadership environment.

The construction industry using information concepts. The objective of the research is to identify the characteristics of leadership and management, identify the relationship between the use of performance information, an information environment and leadership, and then develop a leadership based education which will use the information based processes to assist project/construction manager’s move to a Leadership style.

Management has a direct relationship to inefficiencies of delivery processes, and results in the inefficient or non-value added functions of control, Management, and minimum quality construction.  After the research is carried it is important understand and learn how different management style and leadership styles deliver Construction Projects and how it can be improvement through different levels of management.

Project Aim

The aim of the project is to research different management styles and leadership styles which is put into practise when delivering a Construction project.

This is where I will conclude on my findings and from my research. I will put some information gathered into graphs and charts

Discussion – In this section I will give my own explanation of what the results of my research show. I will make my own interpretations and judgements in this section.

Conclusions – In the conclusion I will apply my own reasoning and judgement on the findings of the research in order to draw conclusions.

The dissertation research will be gathered in different ways. I will be contacting my previous directors and asking them questions on the topic on Management in Construction. Also researching different methods construction firms have found so they can develop their managers. Books, articles, awards magazines which will indicate positive management. I will be also reflecting on my past site diaries as a Site Manager to show how I have led a job and engaged with sub-contractors to get a contract over the line. I will also look at current and past projects run by individuals and the qualities they have to progress through the project. How they deal with staff, higher management, pressure.
