I love to buy particular items on sales, and I love deals. Recently, I had to move from an apartment to storage until my next apartment was ready. I had to select a mover based on time and cost. My sister assisted me and chose a service called Thumbtack. The company is internet-based. The company hosts various business owners who are available to do handy work. She filled out the necessary information about the move and some of the companies responded with quotes. The choice I had to make was to hire a 50 dollar an hour person without a truck, or I could hire a two-man team truck included for minimum 2 hours of work for 159.00 plus 59.00 for each additional hour. I calculated the move to be under two hours. She accidently sent me the choice for the 2-hour minimum. Needless to say the movers finished in less than 2 hours. I was so distraught because I knew I had to hire movers again and projected I wasted about 60 dollars. The 60 dollars loss could have been added toward my next move. The mover for the first move would have been better suited for the second move. One good point for the movers is that they earned twice as much as contracted. I now see the error as my sister did not analyze the move as I did. She is a person who pays for service without comparison-shopping. I have many obligations for my money that forces me to be frugal. The bright side is the movers were punctual and efficient to the completion of the task.
