In the field of industrial engineering, huge efforts are made to reduce costs and increase profit. However, it is important to keep quality in mind when making these changes. This is where Six Sigma can be used to ensure that new or improved processes will meet product specifications with little variability. What is Six Sigma? Six Sigma is a methodology used to ensure standards are met by reducing or preventing defects from a process. Six Sigma can be used to help reduce defects and improve quality on existing processes. It can also be used to prevent defects in a newly created process. Many companies benefit from the quality levels that result from using Six Sigma.
Therefore, I would like to propose completing my literature review on this topic. In doing so, I will research topics such as the purpose and how to implement Six Sigma. In the following paragraphs, I will share the topics I would like to research relating to Six Sigma, the process I will follow to complete this research, and why I am qualified to research this topic. Ultimately, my goal is to demonstrate why I feel this topic is fit for my literature review.

Methods
In order to gather data on this topic, I will need to access databases, determine relevant articles, review relevant articles for important information, and then summarize this information. I intend to use the Omnifile database on Western Michigan University’s library website and the Compendex and PaperChem Expert databases from the Engineering Village website. These databases can be used to search for Six Sigma articles that meet expectations. I will need to be sure the articles are peer-reviewed and eliminate irrelevant articles. Then, I will be able to review and summarize the important points that these articles share.

Qualifications
As an industrial engineering student, I have completed many statistical courses. In addition, I am currently completing a course on statistical quality control. This prepares me to understand the necessity for quality and also the statistics that must be considered when using Six Sigma for process improvement. However, I do not know much beyond these basic ideas. I would like to complete more research on this topic to better understand the methods , capabilities, and purposes of Six Sigma.

Conclusion
Six Sigma has many benefits to quality and cost reduction. Many organizations do not know how Six Sigma can help their economy, how to apply this methodology, or where to use it.
